101. Holandia

Jabłko - jeden z najbardziej popularnych owoców w Polsce, szczególnie zimą, kiedy możemy jeść polskie soczyste jabłka zebrane jesienią w polskich sadach. Od wieków przypisywano mu przeróżne znaczenie symboliczne, pojawiało się też w baśniach, folklorze i mitologiach, m.in. rzymskiej, greckiej i celtyckiej. Według chrześcijan doprowadziło ono pierwszych ludzi do upadku, gdy zjedli oni jabłko z drzewa poznania dobra i zła w ogrodzie Eden.

An apple - one of the most popular fruit in Poland, especially in winter when we can eat Polish juicy apples, picked up from the orchards in the autumn. Many symbolic meanings were assigned to them, they were also appearing in the fairy tales, folklore and mythologies, i.a. Roman, Greek and Celtic. According to Christianity it brought the first people to fall, when they've eaten the apple from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Eden. Thanks to an apple falling down the tree, Isaac Newton discovered with the gravity law, and Wilhelm Tell was forced to shoot it with a crossbow from his son's head (or to choose his own death).
Apples also have their episodes in the perfume industry - in the communist regime times in Poland there were produced sweet perfumes named "Green Apple". Currently there are DKNY perfumes on the market, named "Be Delicious" with a bottle reminding a green apple in shape and colour. The apple is also one of the main ingredients of this scent. The name refers to a cultivar of apple - Golden Delicious which are big green apples of a sweet taste. Probably the apples on the postcards are from a cultivar Antonovka.
