Święta na Białorusi trwają od 25 grudnia do 7 stycznia. Pamiętajmy, że jest to kraj, w którym większość ludzi należy do wyznania prawosławnego.
Białoruskie tradycje bożonarodzeniowe przetrwały jedynie na wsi na zachodzie kraju, jednak niektóre z nich już zaginęły. Dawniej zamiast choinki w domach stawiano snop żyta, który był przygotowany dla Dziadka Mroza, żeby nie wymroził zasiewów na polach, miał mu wystarczyć tylko ten snop w domu. 24 grudnia w większości domów jest obchodzony jako Kućcia (nasza Wigilia).
Przed kolacją gospodarz obchodzi dom trzy razy, po czym stuka w okno. Gospodyni pyta wtedy, kto puka, a gospodarz odpowiada: "Sam Bóg stuka z ciepłą, mokrą wiosną, gorącym, a nie burzliwym latem i suchą, bogatą jesienią".
Pod obrusem umieszcza się sianko, a następnie wyciąga po jednym źdźble, którego długość ma odpowiadać długości lnu, jaki urośnie w przyszłym roku. Tradycyjnymi potrawami na Kućci są: kwas z grzybami, blince z makiem i miodem oraz kutia, którą gotuje się rano jako pierwszą, ale podaje jako ostatnią. Kutia podczas świąt jest przygotowywana 3 razy - na Wigilię, na Nowy Rok i na Trzech Króli. Zachowanie zboża oraz pogoda w tych dniach jest szczegółowo obserwowana, ponieważ dostarcza gospodyni informacji o nadchodzącym roku, np. szron zapowiada urodzaj grzybów. Natomiast jęczmień, z którego robi się kutię jest z trzech pór: wczesny, późniejszy i późny. Ten, z którego będzie najpulchniejsza kutia będzie najurodzajniejszy w nadchodzącym roku.
Znaną tradycją jest też chodzenie po domach kolędników, którzy śpiewają różne pieśni oraz życzą wszelkiej pomyślności gospodarzom.

Belarussian Christmas traditions survived only in the countryside in the western part of the country but some of them disappeared. Formely in the house there was sheaf of wheat put instead of Christmas tree. It was prepared for Grandfather Frost not to freeze crops on the fields, that sheaf must have been enough for him. December 24th is celebrated as Kućcia (our Christmas Eve).
Before the dinner the host is walking three times around the house and knocks the window. His wife asks: "Who's there" and the host answeres: "It's God by Himself with warm and wet spring, hot, but not stormy summer and dry, rich autumn".
There's hay put under the tablecloth and next it's drawn one by one and its lenght suits to the lenght of the flax that's going to grow up next year. Traditional dishes are: acid with mushrooms, blinces with poppy and honey and kutia, which is prepared as the first in the morning and eaten as the last one. Kutia is prepared three times during the Christmas: for the Christmas Eve, for New Year and for Epiphany. The grain's behaviour and the weather on these days is observed very carefully by the hostess because it brings many predictions about the next year, e.g. hoarfrost predicts the mushroom harvest. Barley whereas which is used for kutia comes from three seasons: early, later and the latest. The one, which the lightest kutia is made from, will be the most fertile in the next year.
A famous traditons are carolers who sing various songs and wish the hosts many prosperity.
